PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Dear Parents, Carers and Community,
The Willows is continuing to do an exceptional job in student learning on a daily basis. Please take the time to review our Facebook entries, which highlight the impressive work of students and staff.
EVERY STUDENT IS A READER AND A WRITER – AIM FOR THE ‘A’
The Willows State School was asked to present at a recent Principal’s conference. At this time, we highlighted the work our staff are doing to ensure our students are receiving feedback and support to build strong readers and writers. Our work aligns very clearly to the Departments key goal of “every student succeeding’. Our heavy focus on writing is enabling our students to access and succeed in all learning areas across the Australian Curriculum.
INCLUSIVITY – Everyone Counts!
All schools follow the inclusive education policy and at The Willows, we have been on this journey for many years. Our staff provide support and employ adjustments to suit the learning needs of all students. We have a strong team and access to knowledgeable others and we work closely with our families. We value diversity within our school in a range of ways and are respectful of individual differences. These core values continue to be taught through our PBL lessons and a range of other curricular-based offerings.
POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR LEARNING
This week our students are very excited to be part of the first 75 STARS reward. A mid-term reward for following classroom expectations. The 75 STARS rewards is at the discretion of each class teacher and the rewards are designed in collaboration with our students.
POSITIVE PARTNERSHIPS
We continue to have strong community partnerships adding value to the effective and high quality education for our students. I would like to thank the following community partners for their time, effort and generosity to our school:
- Global Tropics Future Project and Qld Virtual STEM Academy at Thuringowa State High School who are celebrating 5 years of delivering STEM enrichment programs to students across Queensland.
- Adopt a Cowboy program – Ben Condon
- Ronald Macdonald House visit working closely with our student leadership team.
- Deadly Choices Program supported by TAIHS
- Sporting Schools
- Scripture Union – Chappy Brooke
We are aiming for a strong finish to a very successful term 1.
Kind regards,
Patricia Winter
Deputy Principal
