Principal’s Pride
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Community Members,
Welcome to Week 6. Last Friday, we hosted Prep to Year 2 and Year 3 to 6 Bullying No Way National Week of Action assemblies. Thank you to the school community members who were able to come along to join in the student presentations with us. Our Prep to Year 2 students enjoyed singing an anti-bullying song they had learned and every class from Year 3 to 6 had class representatives deliver their personalised anti-bullying pledges. Our entire staff and student body were also instrumental in delivering key messages about ‘Kindness’ in video footage created by Mr Menzies, Mrs Nosworthy and Mrs Barra.
School-led Review Validation – THANK YOU
Last week on Tuesday and Wednesday we had four members of the SRR Validation team attend our school site to conduct several staff, student and parent interviews to ‘validate’ our school-led review findings and seek to identify any blind spots and additional areas for improvement.
Thank you to all parents and community members who contributed to this process. Your assistance in contributing your voice to envision the future for our school and develop our new Strategic Plan 2026-2029 is much appreciated and vital.
The SRR Validation team spoke very highly of the process we had engaged in over the past six months to seek authentic stakeholder voice and shared a number of very positive affirmations about our school at the exit meeting. A number of key improvement strategies/’next steps’ for the new 4-year strategic planning cycle (2026-2029) were also identified.
Once the Final Validation Report is received by the school, the findings from this will be shared and an Executive Summary uploaded to our school website for all to read.
2026 BYOx Parent information Session – held on TUESDAY, 19/08
Letters have now been distributed to all current students in Year 3 to 5 regarding BYOx arrangements for 2026. As in previous years, BYOx Parent Information Sessions will be offered in Term 3 and early Term 4 and reminders will be distributed advising interested families of these dates and times.
The Term 3 BYOx Parent Information Session was held on Tuesday, 19 August at 5:00pm. Thes information sessions are a great opportunity to learn more about QLearn and hear from BYOx class teachers about digital pedagogy.
Looking forward to seeing all interested caregivers there in our remaining Term 4 session.
P&C Meeting – THIS WEEK on WEDNESDAY, 20 AUGUST
All parents, grandparents, extended family members and community members are invited to attend our TWSS P&C Meetings held on the third Wednesday of every school term month in the TCBC Conference Room from 6pm. Your support of our school is much appreciated. The P&C are currently working on a number of fundraising ventures for our school this term, including the Father’s Day Stall (1 September - 4 September) and Colour Fun Run (12 September). Many hands make light work.
DATE CLAIMER: 2026 Prep Bulk Enrolment Interview Session is coming up THIS WEEK!
On Thursday, 21 August (after school) we are conducting a bulk enrolment interview session in the TCBC for all 2026 Prep enrolments who have submitted their enrolment paperwork. If you have a prospective Prep student for our school for 2026, please contact the school office to secure you and your child’s place in this interview session OR our sessions to be held in Term 4.
Prospective 2026 Prep students and parents/caregivers may like to consider attending a Willows Warriors Pre-Prep Program session on a Wednesday to support the transition and orientation process to school. Please contact our school office to obtain further information about this free program and the availability of spaces.
Extra-Curricular School Photos will be taken on Thursday, 21 August and Friday, 22 August THIS WEEK
All students involved in extra-curricular photos this week have been given a letter regarding uniform requirements and the photography schedule. Please note the schedule below:
FINAL REMINDER: 2025 School Opinion Survey – Parents/Caregivers – CLOSES FRIDAY
The annual suite of School Opinion Surveys will be conducted in Term 3. All families, school staff and students (Year 5 and 6 only) will be invited to participate. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well and how we can improve.
- Families with one or more enrolled children at our school will receive one invitation to complete the survey. The parent/caregiver to receive the invitation is selected based on information and email addresses in OneSchool.
- Participation is by invitation only. There is no generic survey link that can be used by all parents. Each link is unique and can only be used once by the parent. One parent per family will receive the survey link via email. No logins or passwords are needed.
- The survey will close on 22 August.
- The survey invitation email uses the subject line: School Opinion Survey for parents/caregivers, 2025; parents should check junk email folders if it can’t be found. The email will come from the Department of Education, not the school.
- The survey will take approximately 5 minutes to complete using a computer, tablet or smart phone.
- Parents/caregivers who do not have access to the internet at home are welcome to complete their survey online at school. School computers/tablets can be made available upon request if needed.
- Translations of the Parent/Caregiver Survey are available online at https://intranet.qed.qld.gov.au/ResourceCentre/Statistics/schoolopinionsurveys/Pages/forms.aspx
Book Week – Friday, 29 August
Don’t forget that Book Week is coming up soon! Students now have less than two weeks left to organise their costumes. This year’s theme is ‘Book an Adventure.’ Our school Book Week assemblies and AMAZING staff/student performances will be held in TCBC on the morning of Friday, 29 August (Prep to Year 2 from 9:30am and Year 3 to 6 from 11:45am). All family and community members are warmly invited to attend – it is an event NOT to miss!
P&C Father’s Day Stall – Monday, 1 September to Thursday, 4 September
Our wonderful P&C are once again running a Father’s Day Stall for our students to be able to purchase gifts for the special male caregivers in their lives. Gift prices are very competitive, and all profits go towards school fundraising projects which include playgrounds, shade structures and resources. The P&C will distribute flyers to all students regarding purchasing options in the near future.
Extra-Curricular Activities – Eisteddfod (Week 9 and 10)
Over Week 9 and 10 a large number of our students will be participating in Eisteddfod performances. I wish all of our participating musicians and singers the very best and look forward to sharing news of their achievements in future newsletters. I know they will represent our school with pride. Thanks to our Music Specialist Teacher, Mrs Fiona Coleman, and our Instrumental Music Teachers, for their passion, energy and commitment to helping develop our young musicians and singers to be the very best they can be. Please ensure all school communication regarding rehearsals and permissions for these events are noted to avoid disappointment for your child.

Positive Behaviour Learning (Safe, Respectful, Responsible)

Fortnightly Focus

We will conitinue with the fortnightly focus "We stand against bullying by choosing kindness". It is aligned to the Bullying No Way: National week of action which was held last week.

The theme for this year was “Be bold. Be kind. Speak up.” It takes courage to spark change. This year we challenge our students to spread kindness to squash bullying in our school.
Bullying is everyone's responsibility and kindness is contagious!!
In our community and in our school, we want a place where everyone can belong, a place that celebrates everyone, and where bullying is never accepted. This Bullying No Way Week, we're asking our students, to be bold and say something, spread kindness to counteract bullying.
Deadly Choices
Congratulations to Ashley and Tahlia who won the Cowboys tickets for last weekend. They have shown great behaviour and participation in the Deadly Choices program this term. Thanks Codee the students loved these.

Bullying No Way Assemblies
Thank you to all staff and students who participated in coordinating the assemblies last week. A special thank you to Mr Menzies for the filming and the development of the kindness digital, as well as to all class teachers and students for the amazing posters they prepared. The children absolutely loved the content and were spellbound.
Thank you also to teachers for leading class discussions, song preparations (Prep to Year 2), and pledge presentations (Year 3 to 6). It is so special hearing passionate student voices around this important topic.
Our MC’s William, Jordan, Harleim and Eva did a fantastic job leading the parades as well!
And what a lovely way to finish our assemblies—hearing our students sing our school song with such joy!

The Pitch (Music News)
Music News – Issue 13 Term 3 Week 5 / 6
Eisteddfod Week is Almost Here!
We're now only three weeks away from Eisteddfod Week, and excitement is building! Permission notes were sent home last week. Please return as soon as possible.
Rehearsals were better this week, but there were still some children missing. It is important that all children are partaking in the rehearsal to prepare for Eisteddfod performance/s. It is an expectation that all members of the Instrumental and Choral programs are attending all rehearsals. If there is an absence, we ask that it is being followed through with the ensemble teacher via email, phone call or note. If children have missed too many rehearsals, they will not be invited to the Eisteddfod. We have had some children upset in the past when they don’t receive an invitation to attend. Please ensure that they are organised and ready for each rehearsal and lesson.
It is also important your child is prepared and organised for the day. Please check the timetable below to make sure you have lunch, water bottles, instruments, music, costumes etc. for the correct day.
Buses are on a tight schedule with school runs – we need to be on time.
Senior Choir and selected Year 3’s need to be dressed and arrive in costumes (as indicated on note that went home) on Friday, 12September for the novelty section.
For those who have missed the uniform requirements. They are as follows -
- Navy blue skorts/skirts/shorts (for boys)
- White ankle CREW socks (above the shoe)
- Black closed in shoes
- Teal, navy, yellow/gold hair accessories

Eisteddfod Assembly

TCBC – 2.00pm to 3.00pm
You are invited to our whole school parade on Wednesday, 3 September @ 2.00pm to watch the Bands, Orchestra, various Instrumental Ensembles and Choirs perform as pre-Eisteddfod practice.
MUSIC PERFORMANCES
Keep an eye (and ear!) out over the next couple of weeks as small student groups sharing their talents with mini performances during lunchtime and before school. These pop-up shows will take place in various spots around the school—so you might just stumble across some surprise music, as you go about your day!

INSTRUMENTAL RECRUITING 2026
We need more students to step forward and join our Instrumental Music Program! This year, recruitment is starting a whole term earlier, giving your child an exciting opportunity to begin learning an instrument in 2026.
Applications were sent home last week. If your child hasn’t applied yet, now is the time! Don’t miss out on this chance to be part of an amazing musical journey.
All students in Year 2, 3, 4, and 5 are invited to apply for Strings, Brass, Woodwind, and Percussion. We are changing to accommodate Year 2 children who are interested. We will test to see if suitable for chosen instrument.
Learning an instrument is not only fun—it builds confidence, improves focus, and develops lifelong skills. We strongly encourage all interested students to apply.
To help you understand more, we will hold an information session in Week 8 this term with all the details you need. Make sure to mark your calendars and come be informed of what opportunities are available for your child learning an instrument.
Let’s get those applications in and start making music together!
Music Photos
Thursday 21 and Friday 22 August
Children are expected to be part of the music photos for each group they are involved in. Please ensure they have their black shoes and white socks for their day and hair tidy with matching-coloured ribbons etc. Music shirts will be handed to them at the photo session to change into.
Junior/Senior School Choir
Fiona Coleman
Rehearsals are getting hard and some of us a little tired. Patience, effort and hard work is being tested but we are pushing through. There are some lovely sounds evolving and you are all doing an amazing job!
A reminder about Our novelty section song for SENIOR CHOIR & selected Year 3 Choral students ONLY. A note was sent home this week confirming accessories needed to assist with this fun performance. We do not ask that you go to great expense for a five minute performance. It is decided to dress as an old man. If you could please start looking for these items it would be greatly appreciated. Please see me if you have any questions. I’m looking forward to their polished performances at the Eisteddfod and showcasing their new pieces.

Prep News
Maths
In Maths, we have been looking at the features of shapes and how we can sort them into groups.

Library
We love going to the library and looking at all the books. We have been really excited to read ‘Book an Adventure’ for this year’s Book Week.

Bullying NO Way!
We loved the bullying no way parade and superhero dress up day on Friday. We have been working really hard to make Kindness Contagious.

Year One News
Students in Year One have been working hard with lots of different Maths concepts to cover. Some of the areas we have been exploring are sharing and multiplying number problems, measurement and shape. We have been exploring these new concepts in lots of different ways like blocks, playdough, iPad tasks and other concrete materials that we have found in the library. The students have been enjoying learning in a range of ways that suit their learning needs.

In English, we are having lots of fun writing procedures for our favourite games and then persuading our friends to play these games with us. We having been playing games including Tag, Hide and Seek, Duck Duck Goose, Freeze Dance as well as Egg and Spoon Races. The students have been writing their own steps to these games and presenting them to their peers.
After such a busy start to Term 3, we celebrated our 75 Star champions with a fun afternoon of rotational activities including, stem building challenges, iPad games, Lego building, train track building and much more. There were lots of smiles and excitement.
Well done to all of our Year 1 students who achieved 75 stars!

Year Two News
In the past week, students in Year 2 have been learning how to complete division math problems using their chosen strategies of equal groups and arrays. They have been sharing quantities equally between their groups or arrays to discover the correct answers. The students have solved problems with left over amounts and have been discussing what they can do with the leftovers to make sharing fair.

In English, we have been learning how to write a persuasive speech. The students have been learning how to persuade their classmates that a trip to the circus and the farm would be fun and educational. They have been describing the things they can do, eat and see using expanded noun and verb groups. They have also been sharing their speech with the class using lots of enthusiasm and expression.
In Science this week, Year 2 have been learning about forces such as push and pull. The students made a paper plane to push and experimented changing the force they used to make the planes fly. They discovered that air resistance affects the way their planes moved and discussed how gravity is pulling their planes to the ground. We then changed our plane by adding a string so we could pull the plane. The class discovered this did not work very well because the wind could not get under the wings to help the plane fly. The plane just moved towards us upside down.
In PBL this week, Year 2 celebrated making 75 stars with outdoor games. The students rotated through relay races, soccer, novelty races such as sack races and skipping. A lot of fun was had by all! We also participated in the ‘Bullying No Way’ parade. Students came dressed in their favourite superhero costumes and also made kindness crowns to wear. The parade was a huge success, and the students looked amazing in all their crowns and costumes. Thank you, parents, for your effort making your little people look so good! 2C made kindness fairy bread to represent sprinkling kindness in our school. Their creations were a huge hit!

Year Three News
This term, Year 3 students are conducting various investigations to discover the behaviour of heat energy. The students are investigating how heat energy is transferred from one material to another, while also discovering which materials are better at conducting heat. The students will then use this knowledge to describe the effects of heat transfer in familiar and unfamiliar situations.

We learned the black container transferred the most heat energy to the water (compared to blue, pink and white). We learnt that black absorbs more heat than white because it absorbs all wavelengths of light, converting them into heat, while white reflects most wavelengths, resulting in less heat absorption.

We’ve learned that metal is the best conductor of heat energy, compared to plastic or wood. Conductors are materials that allow heat energy to flow through them easily and they become hot quickly.
Year Four News
We are finally half-way through the term! This term in Science, the Year 4’s task is to understand how relationships of living things impact on their life cycle. To organise and communicate findings, students have been learning about lifecycles of endangered plants and Australian animals. Students have been busy growing alfalfa and learning about the lifecycle of a butterfly.

Year Five News
Last Thursday, the Year 5 students enjoyed Week 5 - 75 Star Reward celebrations. The students could choose activities such as outdoor play, computer time or art activities (in the undercover area near I pod). Everyone had a wonderful time with their friends and look forward to Week 10 celebrations which will be Trivia (as a whole cohort).
Good luck to you all – keep earning your stars and we will see you there!

Year Six News
This term, Year 6 students have been exploring the fascinating world of electricity. They’ve investigated how circuits work, learning how energy flows to power lights, buzzers, and motors. Through hands-on experiments, students will be discovering what objects are insulators that block electricity and which are conductors that let electricity flow through them. From testing everyday objects like spoons, paperclips, and plastic rulers, to building their own working circuits, our budding scientists have combined theory with practical skills.
